1969 – MAHATMA GANDHI CENTENARY COMMEMORATION:

On the occasion of birth centenary of M.K. Gandhi ( Mahatma Gandhi), the father of the nation, India issued this  10 rupees commemorative coin on 3^rd October 1969. The other coins issued for general circulation in his memory, are in the denomination of 20 paisa, 50 paisa and 1 rupee.

1970 --  FAO 25TH ANNIVERSARY COMMEMORATIVE (Lotus and Sun):

On the occasion of the 25^th Anniversary of the Food and Agriculture Organizatiom of the United Nations in 1970, India participated in the celebration by issuing this 10 rupees coin on 16^th October, 1970. Another 20 paise coin was issued for general circulation, on the same occasion.

Rev – The reverse of this coin shows a lotus in full bloom with water lines in the fore ground. It also shows a rising sun in the back ground and two ears of corns on either side. ‘1970’ – the year of issue appears just below the lotus. The legend ‘FOOD FOR ALL’ in English and ‘Sabke Liye Anna’; in Hindi, is inscribed in the bottom periphery.

India got its independence from the British rule on 15^th August,1947. On the occasion of 25th Anniversary of Independence, India issued this 10 rupees commemorative coin on 16th August 1972. On this occasion another coin in the denomination of 50 paise, was also issued for general circulation.

2008- HOMI BHABHA BIRTH CENTENARY YEAR COMMEMORATION:

Homi Jehangir Bhabha, FRS (30 October 1909 – 24 January 1966) was an Indian nuclear physicist who played a major role in the development of the Indian atomic energy program and is considered to be the father of India's nuclear program. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society on 20 March 1941. In 1945, he founded and directed two major scientific institutions - the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) and the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC)of India. In the 1950s, Bhabha represented India in International Atomic Energy Forums, and served as President of the United Nations Conference on the Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy in Geneva, Switzerland in 1955. He was awarded Padma Bhushan by Government of India in 1954. He later served as the member of the Indian Cabinet's Scientific Advisory Committee and set up the Indian National Committee for Space Research with Vikram Sarabhai. On January 24, 1966, Bhabha died in a plane crash near Mont Blanc, while heading to Vienna, Austria to attend a meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency's Scientific Advisory Committee. After his death, the Atomic Energy Establishment in Trombay was renamed as the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre in his honour.

On the occasion of Birth Centenary Year of Homi Bhabha, India issued this 10 rupees commemorative coin on 29^th September, 2009. On this occasion another coin in the denomination of 100 rupees, was also issued as proof / UNC.

2012 – MATA VAISHNO DEVI SHRINE BOARD, SILVER JUBILEE COMMEMORATION

    Vaishno Devi Mandir is one of the holy Hindu temples dedicated to Shakti, located in the hills of Vaishno Devi,Jammu and Kashmir. Vaishno Devi, also known as Mata Rani and Vaishnavi, is a manifestation of the Mother Goddess.
            The temple is near the town of Katra, in the Reasi district in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. It is one of the most revered places of worship in India. The shrine is at an altitude of 5300 feet and a distance of approximately 12 kilometres from Katra. Approximately 8 million pilgrims visit the temple every year.

2014 – DIAMOND JUBILEE OF COIR BOARD OF INDIA (1953 - 2013 ) COMMEMORATION:

         The Coir Board is a statutory body established by the Government of India under the 'Coir Industry Act 1953 (45 of 1953)' for the promotion and development of the coir(coconut fibre) industry in India.

It is based in Kochi and Alappuzha. The head office of the Coir Board is in Kochi and the research and training office is in Kalavoor, Alappuzha. The coir industry is one of the traditional industries in India that is still at its peak. The board works for the promotion, research, education, and training of the coir industry. 2015 - PRAVASI BHARATIYA DIVAS – 100 YEARS OF RETURN OF MAHATMA GANDHI FROM SOUTH AFRICA TO INDIA COMMEMORATION

        On the occasion "Pravasi Bhartiya Divas", a set of two  Commemorative Coins Rs 100/- and Rs 10/-, were  released on 8^th January 2015. to commemorate -- Centenary year of Return of Mahatma Gandhi from South Africa to India.

   Gandhi returned to India in 1915 after his 21 years of stay in South Africa. The coins shows two pictures of Gandhi, one when he was a young barrister and another one after he came to be known as ‘Mahatma’ by people across the globe.

2015 – SWAMI CHINMAYANANDA BIRTH CENTENARY  COMMEMORATION:

       Swami Chinmayananda Saraswati was a Hindu spiritual leader and teacher, who inspired the formation of Chinmaya Mission, a worldwide non profit organization; to spread the knowledge of Advaita Vedanta, the non dualsystem of thought found in Upanishads, which shows the phylosophical teaching of the vedas.

       Chinmayananda is known for teaching Bhagavad Gita, the Upanishads and other ancient Hindu scriptures. From 1951 onwards, he spearheaded a global Hindu spiritual and cultural renaissance that popularised the religion's scriptural texts, teaching them in English all across India and abroad.

2015 : FIRST INTERNATIONAL DAY OF YOGA COMMEMORATION 

Yoga is a 5000 - year old physical, mental and spiritual practice, having its origin in India, which aims to transform both body and mind. The idea of an International Day of Yoga was first proposed by Mr. Narendra Modi (Prime Minister of India) during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly(UNGA) on September 27 2014. In his UN address, he suggested the date of June 21, as it is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere ans shares special significance in many parts of the world.
On December 11 in 2014, the United Nations General Assembly unanimously declared June 21st as the International Day of Yoga or commonly refered to as Yoga Day. This Yoga day is celebrated annually on June 21 since its inception in 2015. The first International day of Yoga was observed world over on June 21, 2015.

 To commemorate this, India has issued a 10 rs Bi-metal coin. Another 100 rs coin is also issued to be included in UNC and proof sets.

2015 -- THE 3RD INDIA-AFRICA FORUM SUMMIT COMMEMORATION

  The  India –Africa    Forum Summit (IAFS) is the official platform for the African-Indian relations. IAFS will be held once in every three years. 
  The first such summit was held fromApril 4 to April 8, 2008 in New Delhi, India. It was the first suchmeeting between the heads of state and government of India and 14 countries of Africa chosen by the African Union. Libya and Egypt's heads of state did not attend.
 The second summit was held at the Ethiopian captal Addis Ababa, with India and 15 African countries participating. The leaders discussed significant aspects of the India-Africa partnership with the objective of enhancing and widening its ambit for mutual benefit.

2015 – 125^TH  BIRTH ANNIVERSARY OF DR B R AMBEDKAR

Dr Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar (b. 14 April 1891 – 6 December 1956), popularly known as Babasaheb Ambedkar, was one of the architects of the Indian Constitution.

Babasaheb was a well-known politician, economist, social reformer and an eminent jurist. Ambedkar’s efforts to eradicate the social evils like untouchablity and caste restrictions were remarkable. The leader, throughout his life, fought for the rights of the dalits and other socially backward classes. Ambedkar was appointed as the nation’s first Law Minister in the Cabinet of Jawaharlal Nehru. He was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honor in 1990.

To commemorate the 125^th birth anniversary year celebrations of Dr B R Ambedkar, coins were issued on his death anniversary, which is being observed as “Mahaparinirvan Divas of Babasaheb Ambedkar”.

2016 – 150^TH BIRTH ANNIVERSARY OF LALA LAJPAT RAI COMMEMORATION:

Lala Lajpat Rai   (28 January 1865 – 17 November 1928) was an Indian Punjabi author and politician who is chiefly remembered as a leader in the Indian Independence movement. He was popularly known as Punjab Kesari. He was part of the Lal Bal Pal trio. He was also associated with activities of Punjab National Bank and Lakshmi Insurance Company in their early stages. He sustained serious injuries by the police when leading a non-violent protest against the Simon Commission and died less than three weeks later. His death anniversary (17 November) is one of several days celebrated as Martyrs' Day in India.

2016 -- NATIONAL ARCHIEVES:

The National Archives of India (NAI) maintains the non-current records of the Government of India and which can be used after permission by administrators and scholars. It was originally called Imperial Record Department when it was established in 1891, in Calcutta. NAI was shifted to Delhi in 1911 and is today situated at the intersection of Janpath and Rajpath. The NAI has a Regional Office at Bhopal and three Record  Centres at Bhubaneswar, Jaipur  and           Pondicherry.

Shri K.R. Narayanan, then President of India, declared the “Museum of the National Archives” open to the general public on 6 July 1998 which provides an overview of the holdings of the National Archives, and promotes a common man’s interest in archival holdings.

2016 – TATYA TOPE, 200^TH BIRTH ANNIVERSARY  COMMEMORATION:

Tatya Tope also known as Ramachandra Pandurang Tope (1814 – 18 April 1859) was an Indian leader in the Indian Rebellion of 1857 and one of its notable generals.
     He was a personal adherent of Nana Sahib of Bithur, he progressed with the Gwalior contingent after the British reoccupied Cawnpore and forced General Windham to retreat from the city. Later on, he came to the relief of Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi and with her seized the city of Gwalior. However, he was defeated by General Napier's British Indian troops at Ranod and after a further defeat at Sikar abandoned the campaign. He was executed by the British Government at Shivpuri on 18 April 1859.

2016 – MAHARANA PRATAP, 475^TH BIRTH ANNIVERSARY COMMEMORATION

Maharana Pratap  (May 9, 1540 – January 29, 1597) was a2016 – MAHARANA PRATAP, 475TH BIRTH ANNIVERSARY COMMEMORATION

Maharana Pratap  (May 9, 1540 – January 29, 1597) was a Hindu ruler of Mewar, a state in north-western India. In 1568, during the reign of Udai Singh II, Chittor was conquered by the Mughal emperor Akbar. Maharana Pratap never accepted Akbar as ruler of India, and fought against Akbar all his life to free Chittor fort, his ancestral home, from Mughal occupation. On June 21, 1576 he fought with the army of Akbar at Haldighati, Seeing that the battle was lost, Pratap fled, and escaped to the hills. His one attempt at open confrontation having thus failed, Pratap resumed the tactics of guerilla warfare. He died on January 29, 1597. Maharana Pratap has always been held in great esteem in India and was projected as a model of patriotism and freedom struggle against the Mughal rule in India.

2016 – BANARAS HINDU UNIVERSITY CENTENARY YEAR COMMEMORATION (1916 – 2016)

    Banaras Hindu University, commonly referred to as BHU; formerly known as Central Hindu College, is a public central university lacated in Varanabi, Uttar Pradesh. Established in 1916 by Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya. BHU is one of the largest residential universities in Asia. The university comprises all castes, creeds, religions and genders and is on the list of institutes of National importance. 

   The universitiy's main campus spread over 1,00 acres (5.3 km2), hosts the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (Agriculture Science Center) and is located in Barkachha in Mirzapur district, about 60 kms (37 miles) from Banaras. The University is also planning to set up a campus in Bihar.

   BHU is organised into 6 institutes and 14 faculties(streams) and more than 132 departments. Total student enrolment at the university exceeds 30,000 and includes students from over 34 nations. It has over 60 hostels for resident students. 2016 -- 500TH ANNIVERSARY COMMEMORATION OF HINDU SAINT SHRI KRISHNA CHAITANYA MAHAPRABHU'S VISIT TO VRINDAVAN.

            Krishna Chaitanya Mahaprabhu was a distinguished promoter for the Vaishnava School of Bhakti Yoga. The Bhakti movement initiated by him strove to eradicate the evils of caste and feudal systems in medieval India.
            Chaitanya Mahaprabhu propagated the worship of Shri Krishna and popularised the chanting of "Hare Krishna Mantra" to all without any discrimination.
            In 1515, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu visited Vrindavan with the objective of locating the lost holy places associated with Lord Krishna's transcendent pastimes. It is believed that through his intuitive powers, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu was able to locate all the places associated with Lord Sri Krishna and restore the pristine purity of the religious practices of the yore.

       To commemorate the 500 th Anniverary of Mahaprabhu Sri Chaitanya, this 10 rs Bi-Metal coin was released on 25th November, 2016. The other coin, issued in the denomination of 500 rupees, is only issued for inclusion in proof / UNC sets.

2015 - SRI JAGANNATH  NABAKALEBAR COMMEMORATION 

           

SRI JAGANNATH is a famous deity of the Hindus all over the world.

About Sri Jagannath Nabakalebar Festival :

Nabakalebar is a festival observed in the Shri Jagannath Temple in Puri (Odisha) where Lord Jagannath adorns a new body during Nabakalebar. The Nabakalebar is a combination of two words-Naba(New) and Kalebara(body) meaning ‘Newbody’.

This festival marks the re-embodiment of the deities when they relinquish their old bodies and adorns a new one with the soul-substance remaining the same. The bodies of the deities at the Shri Jagannath Puri have been fabricated out of the wood of the Neem tree, which is subjected to decay after a certain period and needs replacement.

The new body change-over ceremony takes place only when there are two Ashadhas called as Purusottam month or the month of Ashadha in which there are two full moons, which usually occurs every twelve to nineteen years. The festival was celebrated in past in the years 1912, 1931, 1950, 1969, 1977, 1996 and now in 2015.

The soul is transferred from the old idols to their new bodies in a highly technical and conspicuous manner, prescribed and inherited from generations by the Daitas and the Rakshaks.

    In 2015 the Nabakalebar is being held for a period starting with BanajagaYatra from 29 March 2015 and ending with Niladribije on 30 July as per schedule announced by the temple.

   The First step of the Nabakalebar, starts with the BanajagaJatra, strenous ritual to appease MaaMangala for hints of the sacred Daru Brahma. After the Daru Brahma is identified and approved, there are several rituals that grace these ceremonies are Daru Brahma Pujanam, Daru Brahma Snanam and Ankuraropana. The Daru Brahma are cut first with a golden axe, then with a silver axe and ultimately with an iron axe to size and brought to the temple.

   In KoiliBaikuntha, the skilled carpenters called Visvakarma fashion the wooden images under the strict supervision and guidance of the Daitas. After the images are carved out, these are taken inside the temple and the Brahma is transferred from the old images to the new images. The old images are buried in KoiliBaikuntha. The new images are painted and made ready for worship.

       To commemorate this holy event this 10 rs coin was released on 18.03.2018. The other coin, issued in the denomination of 1000 rupees, is only issued for inclusion in proof / UNC sets.

2017 - 150TH BIRTH ANNIVERSARY OF SHRIMAD RAJCHANDRA COMMEMORATION.

Shrimad Rajchandra was a prominent Jain philosopher and was spiritual guru of Mahatma Gandhi.  He was born on November 9, 1867.

 Two coins of Rs 150 and Rs 10 denomination were released on 29^th June 2017 to celebrate Shrimad Rajchandra's 150^th birth year. The 10 rs coin was issued for general circulation, but the 150 rs coin is only to be issued in UNC and proof sets.
